shop make them much easier.
DRAWING A SINGLE GHOSTAll the ghosts go “off the page”. In other words you never see the full body of the ghost in the window. Start with a piece of paper slightly bigger than the width of your shade and the height of the tallest part of your ghost. In this example we are going to leave the arms and hands off and just draw a ghost head peaking out from the bottom side of the window. Instructions to add arms and hands follow. Our example window will be 60 inches tall and 34 inches wide inside measurements. The bottom half of the window is one pane and the top part of the window is two rows of 3 panes or 6 panes. Ghost can appear in the entire window, the upper half or just lower half, your choice. My ghost will appear in the bottom full pane. The bottom pane is 30 inches in height. The window frame is 2 inches on the top, 2 inches on the bottom and 4 inches on each side. Even though the finished size of my shade is 60 inches by 34 inches, only the 26 inches by 26 inches will be visible to the outside when illuminated. It is important to make the top of the head of the ghost well down from the top of the 26 x 26 inch area. Mark the middle point of the 26 x 26 area. Mark a point 12 up from the bottom on one side and 12 inches across the bottom on the same side. Starting at one of the 12 inch points, draw an elongated oval to meet the middle point and back around to the other 12 inch point. That is the head. Draw in the eyes, nose and mouth. STOP HERE IF YOU ARE NOT PUTTING ARMS AND HANDS ON THE GHOST AND GO TO “FINISHING THE GHOST” MAKING HANDS AND ARMS FOR THE GHOST-SCREEN Draw an elongated oval on each side of the head. If you wants fingers use your own hand as a guide and draw in fingers. Arms can have no detail for hands, just have thumbs or have fingers. For more complex hands draw in pointed bent fingers. FINISHING THE GHOST-SCREEN Cut out the paper ghost pattern, cut out facial features. Cut out pattern in fabric, DO NOT CUT OUT FACIAL FEATURES. Pin ghost in position on dark shade and zig zag or glue securely in place on right side of shade. Zig zag or glue round the facial features. Follow drying instructions on glue if glueing. Turn shade to wrong side. Cut away 1/8 inch from zig zag or glue the dark fabric from ghost shape. Do not cut away the inside of the facial features. Zig zag or glue the ghost shape again. On right side of fabric cut away the white fabric 1/8 from the edge on the facial features. Glue or zia zag the facial features again. THE GHOST-SCREEN WITH TWO GHOSTS ON THE SCREEN The same measurements are used for the “ghost area”. Divide the 26 x 26 into area into thirds. Make a point for the end of the head down from the top on one of the third lines and mark a point for the second head up from the bottom on the other third line. Mark one point one the side for each ghost and one point on the bottom for each ghost. Draw the two half ovals as in one ghost above. Draw arms and hands if wanted. The picture on the Halloween page shows a ghost screen with shadows and the one on this page shows a two ghost screen without shadows. Shadows on ghost are best described when illustrated and illustrated instructions are available in the shop. The
